Harry sat in the Gryffindor common room, holding a small gift in his hands. His heart was beating fast. He knew he had to do something soon. Everyone was talking about Nott saying he was Malfoy’s secret admirer. Harry wanted to show that it was not true.
He looked at the note next to the gift. Luna had written it for him. Her handwriting was different from his, so no one would know it was from Harry.
The gift was simple: a small box wrapped in silver paper with a green ribbon. Inside was a special plant that only bloomed at night. Harry knew Malfoy liked plants like this because they were quiet and mysterious.
The note said: “Not all people who like someone are brave like Nott. Sometimes waiting quietly takes more courage. — A friend.”
Harry hoped the note would make Malfoy think carefully. He wanted Malfoy to know that Nott was not the real admirer. He sent the gift off.
He felt more confident after sending it. It was time to stop hiding and start showing who he really was. He hoped Malfoy was paying attention. Harry was tired of being quiet. This time, he wanted to be honest and true.
Harry watched from across the Great Hall as Malfoy sat next to Nott again. They were not doing anything romantic, no holding hands or whispered secrets, but they stayed close, talking and laughing quietly. It was different from before. They seemed to spend even more time together, like friends who trusted each other.
A sense of doubt began to arise inside Harry’s chest. The gift and note he had sent didn’t change anything. If anything, it made things worse. Malfoy didn’t look at him once. He acted like Harry didn’t exist. And Nott… well, Nott seemed pleased, like the fake admirer story was working perfectly.
Harry felt a knot of confusion and hurt twist inside him. Maybe Malfoy just wanted a friend. Maybe Harry’s feelings were never returned. The hope he’d held on to now felt fragile and distant.
Without saying a word, Harry stood up. His hands shook as he grabbed his things. He didn’t look back at the tables or the people talking about him. He left the Great Hall quietly, walking fast down the corridor, trying hard to push away the mix of sadness and doubt swirling in his mind. He went flying instead.
