“Arrogant fool.”

Draco was shocked—he couldn’t hide it. He stared at Snape, who he had been certain was a loyal Death Eater, with disbelief coloring his pale, pointed face.

“Your pride will be your end,” Snape hissed, in a towering temper, advancing on Draco with his wand out. Draco could do nothing but back away, cowering. He had never expected this—not from Snape! “You serve the Dark Lord because your father did, because it appeals to your pride—you will lose this fight, Draco.” But he didn’t hex Draco; he turned in a whirl of robes, striding away.

A/N: I've been in a torture Draco mood lately.

He didn’t cry. He didn’t show any emotions. When she said, “It’s me or that damned Mark”, he simply pointed out that he already had the Mark.

She walked out the door and never looked back. Pride wouldn’t let him return to her.

Every memory he had of her, he laid aside. The afternoon she gave him her virginity, gone. The way she smiled. When he admitted to loving her. Gone.

Every single thing that happened from that point on was a direct result of his pride getting in the way.

Every death, torture, bad choice, he blamed on her.
