“…sprinkle a pinch of…”

Draco isn’t paying attention. He should be. But he isn’t.

“…hellebore and a pinch of…”

He is too lost in the soft, silky drawl of Snape’s voice to pay attention.

“…asphodel into your…”

Draco hears Snape’s soft footfalls nearing him from behind on the stone floor.

“…cauldron. Be certain to stir…”

Snape is right behind him. Draco’s heartbeat increases.

“…it slowly, carefully. Am I clear?”

He feels a hand slide on to his shoulder and his breath hitches. Draco glances sideways and sees those pale, spidery fingers clutching him.

Snape lean towards him. “My office after class,” he mutters into Draco’s ear.

Draco smiles knowingly.

When Lucius first introduced Snape to Draco the summer before he started Hogwarts, he wasn't keen on him. He was gruff, greasy, gross, and grotty. Regardless, Lucius insisted that Draco obey Snape. However, recognizing Snape was Head of Slytherin, Draco behaved respectfully.

When school started, Snape's preferential treatment preened his ego. Watching him repeatedly squelch Harry inspired Draco. Being excused from his misconduct towards Potter endeared him. Though Snape was hard on Draco, he was used to Lucius, and thrived under the pressure. What he liked most about Snape was that whenever he needed to talk, the door was open.
