Invisible claws dig deep, tearing my skin.

Green eyes widen in horror.

I'm falling. The floor rushes up to meet me. I land with a crash and a splash.

Blood flares like Fiendfyre across the tiles, yet I’m chilled to the bone.

I draw breath to scream but choke on blood, thick and sticky in my throat.

I clutch my chest, try to hold myself together, but it’s no use. The wounds gape.

I’m shaking.

I realise that I’m going to die. I’m almost grateful.

Through blurred vision I see a flurry of black, hear footsteps and a familiar voice.
