Draco lets himself fall back onto the ground, fallen leaves crunching beneath him as he looks up at the underside of the canopy overhead. It’s not properly autumn yet, so the leaves still shade him from the afternoon sun.
“Are you tired?” Teddy asks, tossing himself down on the ground beside Draco.
“Tired of thinking,” Draco replies thoughtlessly. He’s surprised by the peal of Teddy’s laughter, and glances over to meet his cousin’s eyes. They’re crinkled at the corners, and somehow this reminds him of Teddy’s parents.
The world is full of loss. Draco chooses laughter with his cousin anyway.
