There’s sun in his eyes. Draco blinks, stretching. The space next to him is empty, but when he reaches over, the indentation is still warm.

Draco curls his fingers back in towards his palm, drawing it back towards his chest. He’s still thinking about what Harry said yesterday, before sleeping. The thing is, tradition is important. While he’s not proud of his father, Draco clings to the fact that his family can be more than what they’ve become.

And yet, Harry’s right. Draco can’t be the Malfoy son.

Reaching out again, he feels smooth scales, and hears Karst’s curious hiss.
