Draco stands in the subway carriage, swaying with the turns. Beyond the windows, the dark walls of the tunnels, interspersed by the flashes of lights, flicker past.
“When are you coming home?” his mother had asked, intercontinental Owl pecking at the small tray of treats as Draco tried and failed to respond. He’d finally had to send the Owl away without a reply, its eyes glinting with gold disapproval.
Surrounded by people he doesn’t know, strains of conversations he’s not a part of, Draco takes a deep breath. Beneath his feet, the subway slides on, swallowing up the subterranean tracks.
