Lucius Malfoy is a proud man. He walks with his shoulders back and his head held high. He demands respect and always receives it. People bend over backward just to please him. He has looks, wealth and power. He is the model of perfection.

Draco idolizes him. Watching him carefully, he works hard to emulate him. Draco Malfoy wants to be perfect— just like his father.

Seeing him cower in fear, on his knees and begging in front of a madman confuses Draco. How could he stoop so low? Disappointment washes over him. His father is not perfect after all.

A voice hisses from the smoldering wreckage of his once grand home. Startled, Draco turns, seeing his father’s portrait lying broken in a pile of rubble.

“How dare you?” the portrait cries.

“Father?”

“Did you hear me? How dare you bring ruin to our family?”

Horrified, Draco takes a step back, bile catching in his throat. He had, after all, betrayed his father and it isn’t something he’s forgiven himself for however right the cause had been.

Minutes creep by as he stands there, struggling not to run away. Finally, he raises his wand.

“No, father. How dare you?”
