Lucius always hoped his son would grow up to be like him. He knew the boy shadowed his footsteps and mimicked his mannerisms. Throughout his life Draco always stood taller around his father, and paid keen attention to every word Lucius spoke. Even Draco's vernacular and careful aristocratic drawl were inherited from the patriarch.

What sadness, what heartache Lucius felt now that Draco flushed his life away for something so tenuous as love. Sitting in his cell in Azkaban, graying raw fingers clutched at the silvery bars restraining him and for the first time in his life, Lucius wept.

Author's Note: This is my first submission to this comm. Written using [livejournal.com profile] jamie2109's AWDT - Prompt: It's simple really.

.
His power is a quiet force that comes directly from his soul. As his temper feeds it, you see the magic swirl around him like a raging river after a storm. You feel it encircling you, warm and tight like a lover’s embrace.

You steel yourself, smirk in place. It’s simple really. Provoke him, make him angry, fill him with rage. Then you sense his magic as your body tingles with the feel of it surrounding you – like he’s wrapping those arms around you. You stifle a sob as you walk away.

He’ll never know why you antagonize him.

Never.

Challenge #4: Childhood memory.

~*~

Draco always played in the field of flowers when he was young. He loved to crouch down, giggling, as he peeked through the stalks to watch Daddy jog towards him.

Whenever Daddy got close Draco would let out a playful shriek, jump up and run away from him. He’d look over his shoulder at Daddy to see him grinning and hear him shout, “Coming, ready or not!”

Sometimes he’d let Daddy catch him, and he’d be lifted up and swung around in circles until everything was a colourful blur. They’d spin until Daddy got dizzy and they’d collapse amongst the flowers, laughing.

“I love you, Dragon,” Daddy would say as he hugged him tight.

“I love you, too, Daddy.”

Well, it's Valentine's Day tomorrow. I am not going to succumb to the Valentine mush. I refuse to conform.

So... This week's challenge:

Challenge #5: Heartbreak.

Title: Responsibility
Pairing: Draco/Harry
Rating: PG (I think)
Word count: 100
Challenge: Heartbreak (#5)
Disclaimer: Not mine, don't sue.
Author's Note: Cross-posted to hp100. Unbeta'd, but I have an excellent grasp of the English language (the majority of the time). I hope it's not too bad -- especially for my first post here.
_____________

Draco knew it would come down to this. His father had always told him the plans -- and he had always been eager to please his father. But...he never thought it would be today -- with colors, candies, and overwhelming love. Draco knew it would be his responsibility.

He remembered the boy's last moments. No pleas for life escaped his lips and knowing had filled his eyes. Both knew it would end this way, though unknowing who would be "victorious." Neither really won by murdering the one being they loved.

Harry still looked like the Boy Who Lived...and Draco loved.
