Draco shoves his hands into his coat pockets. Autumn’s soft, dying breath brushes against his temple, taunting him. He sighs, knowing the rebirth will come soon enough.
Harry’s late again.
He stares into the eye of the abyss, where cobblestone blurs and rises to meet the low-hanging clouds, desperate for rest. He thinks of nights with Harry, their war-ridden bodies bathed in darkness, his spine pressed against Harry’s torso.
The familiar sensation is almost enough to make him smile, if it weren’t for the nagging itch of complacency buried just underneath his skin.
Maybe people die with the leaves, too.
